The Equine Centre for the University of Ballarat (now Federation University) at the Mt Rowan campus provides stabling and riding facilities for the University students for educational based activities including the Thoroughbred Training Certificates and Diploma in Racing in addition to the VETiS equine program. The facility also provides the local Riding for the Disabled Association with a base.
The project was delivered under the complex time and program demands of the federal government economic stimulus to counter the effects of the Global Financial Crisis. With a drive by the University for a sustainable construction with a low embodied energy building, a long span glulam timber structure was chosen. The shape is a complex response to achieving the most efficient way for timber to span the 46m total width at the base. It is one of the longest clear span timber structures in Australia.
